It’s funny how certain things come together in unexpected ways. This past weekend, I had the privilege of joining a team of runners supporting Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness at the Millinocket Marathon and Half Marathon. The organization it benefits supports the Wabanaki people in a number of ways, including developing connections in the community to continue their traditions and share their culture, and it has a Healing Center right in the center of town in Millinocket. This is the second year I have run the race, but the first year that I’ve participated in this team. Connecting with this organization and its mission provided a new perspective on what it meant to be running through the lands adjacent to the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
