Paul Thibeault - Managing Director

Paul Thibeault graduated from Bowdoin College and UC-Hastings College of Law in San Francisco. He has had a long career as a legal advocate and non-profit manager with a community-based approach. As an attorney he has a wide range of experience in civil and criminal cases in State, Tribal and Federal courts and administrative agencies. Paul has spent most of his legal career in Indian Legal Services, as an advocate for disadvantaged people, primarily at Pine Tree Legal Assistance and in northern Minnesota. Paul has an extensive background in Federal Indian Law and strong familiarity with the Maine Indian Land Claims Settlement.  He is an experienced mentor and teacher for community activists, young lawyers and student interns. He is committed to using partnerships, community education, and a full range of advocacy tools to promote positive change.

From 2015 to 2017 Paul worked in Whiteclay, Nebraska as part of a coalition of Indian and non-Indian advocates who battled on multiple fronts to end the horrific abuses against Lakota people that were happening as the result of massive liquor sales and lack of law enforcement just across the state border from the Pine Ridge Reservation.
